WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army women’s swimming and diving team swept the competition at today’s quad-meet. The Black Knights defeated American (217-80), Boston U (159-139) and George Mason (165-129). This was the first time in program history that the women’s team defeated the Terriers and Patriots. Army improves to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in the Patriot League.
Prior to the meet, the team’s four firsties,Kristen Barta, Maggie Churchill, Keeli McNeary and Haileigh Phillips, were honored.
“Today was a great day for our team, and everyone involved,” said head coach Mickey Wender. “I was proud of the way we competed and carried ourselves as a team. The firsties have done so much for the program and led from the front today. They were inspiring and worked hard today. I can’t thank them enough for what they have done for the team these past four years in and out of the pool. As a whole, we executed extremely well, happy with the progress we’ve made technically and in race strategy.”
Maggie Churchill competed off both boards placing fourth on the 1-meter (196.15) and third on the 3-meter with 220.40 points.
The 200 medley relay team of Kelly Hamilton, Collin Kessinger, Molly Mucciarone and Rachel Kim, claimed the top spot with a time of 1:46.42.
Hamilton finished in 57.86, for first place in the 100 back and clocked a 2:06.05 in the 200 back for another first-place finish. Jess Burkett recorded a 4:31.21 in the 400 IM to claim the top spot.
In the final event, the Army team of Hamilton, Barta, Rachel Kim and Mucciarone won the 400 free relay to secure the wins over American, Boston U and George Mason.
