Army Battles Boston University To Draw

The Black Knights, picked fourth in the league's preseason poll, stands 1-0-1 in the conference and 4-5-1 overall following Army's first tie of the season and second overtime game. The Terriers, a 2013 NCAA participant and the Patriot League's preseason favorite, is 5-3-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.
The goal is the second of the season for Gottlieb, who took the first shot of the game when she booted the ball from the top of the 18 to the far side in the 18th minute with Madison McGinn picking up the assist - her second of the season.
"The goal was a result of quality posssssion and great composure with a high quality finish by Sam," stated head coach Marcia McDermott. "It was a hard fought battle.The momentum went back and forth, and our team demonstrated a real commitment."
Army did not allow Boston University a shot in the first half and the Terriers limited the Black Knights to just Gottlieb's shot in a defensive first half battle with just two shots allowed. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Terriers ripped off seven shots in the second half with Jenna Fisher tying the game 1-1 after tipping the ball in front of the net in the 64th minute.
Boston University had a shot in the first overtime and two in the second in outshooting the Black Knights 10-2 along with holding a 6-5 corner kick advantage.
Army sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Cassalia, who is ranked No. 12 in the latest NCAA statistics in saves, finished with five rejections to include a spectacular save in the first overtime with just over three minutes remaining on an attempt by Clare Pleuler. The Terriers booted two shots in the second overtime. The first was blocked and the second in the final three seconds sailed over the net.
The Black Knights return to action Wednesday visiting Colgate, 2-0-0 in the league following a 1-0 road win over Loyola today, before returning home. Army, 4-2-0 at Clinton Field, hosts Loyola next Saturday (Oct. 4).
