WEST POINT, N.Y. - Middle-distance runner Clyde Wilson and javelin thrower Justine Rennekamp have qualified for the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Regionals being held May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla., hosted by North Florida.
It is the second time that Wilson has qualified in the 800-meters and first for Rennekamp as the duo look to advance to the NCAA Championships scheduled for June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
To qualify for the NCAA East Regionals, competitors had to post times in the top 48 during the season. Wilson, a junior, competes Thursday evening in the preliminary round of the 800-meter run at Hodges Stadium after meeting the standard with a time of 1:49.63 that he set in April in a fifth-place showing at the Larry Ellis Invitational.
Wilson claimed the title in the 800-meter run at the Patriot League Championships, and went on to place runner-up at the IC4A Championships two weeks ago. He will look to advance out of the field of 48 and compete on Friday at 7 p.m.
Rennekamp, a sophomore, will also compete on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in her first trip to the First Round of the NCAAs. She met the standard in the javelin after claiming the Patriot League Championship title with her toss of 45.04 meters that ranks third on Army's top 10 list.
