BRONX, N.Y. - Fordham's Michele Daubman limited Army to three hits over five innings in the circle to record the win and helped her own cause with a three-run homer in the fifth inning in combining with Patti Maloney on a 6-0 non-conference softball win over the Black Knights Thursday afternoon.
The loss snapped Army's (17-18) modest five-game win streak as the Black Knights were held to four hits, while the Rams collected 10 hits off two pitchers.
The Rams threatened in the bottom of the second inning, but Caroline Smith(11-8), who was tagged with the loss, stranded runners at third and second on a groundout to the third base after Paige Ortiz reached on a fielder's choice and Rachel Gillen ripped a double.
Army threw a scare at Fordham in the top of the third inning when Amanda Nguyen (single) and April Ortenzo (hit by a pitch) were on base, but Daubman got out on an infield popup.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Sydney Canessa, who drew a walk and moved around on a fielder's choice and single, scored on a wild pitch.
Trailing 1-0, Army threatened with one out in the top of the fifth when Tyler McKinney, who led off with a single, reached third base. Daubman got out safely on back-to-back line outs to the second and third basemen, respectively.
Fordham (21-6) added insurance runs behind a four-run fifth keyed by Daubman's home run with two men on board with Gillen's RBI double closing out the scoring.
Ortenzo greeted Malone, who took over the circle in the sixth inning, with a leadoff double but was stranded follow three straight outs.
Army is back in action Saturday when it visits Marist for a non-league doubleheader with first pitch at noon.
