TEAM
Army finished the 2014 season with a 4-8 mark under first-year head coach Jeff Monken.
Senior captain Geoffery Bacon returned to the lineup. He and Larry Dixon were joined by game captains Joe Drummod, Terry Baggett and Raymond Maples.
Army jumped out to a 7-0 lead against Navy, the first time Army has scored first in the service academy rivalry since 2009.
OFFENSE
Senior running back Larry Dixon made his 37th career start, the most of any active Army player.
For the 10th consecutive week, Army had a different starting five on the offensive line. Center Matt Hugenberg is the only member of the offensive line to start all 12 games. He was joined up front by tackles Todd McDonald and Corey Hobbs and guards Jaryn Villegas and Bryce Holland.
Hugenberg played every snap of the 2014 season at center.
Angel Santiago made his 22nd career start at quarterback.
Raymond Maples was switched to fullback for the contest and rushed for 13 yards on four carries.
Maples, who will graduate in December, finished his career sixth all-time in rushing yards with 2,878 yards on 483 carries. Heisman Trophy winner Glenn Davis is fifth with 2,959 yards.
Terry Baggett, who missed practice this week as a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, rushed for 20 yards on four carries.
Baggett, an Academic All-America choice as a junior, finished his career with (1,702 yards) on 220 carries which is 18th all-time.
Saturday he passed Willie McMillian (1,694 from 1988-91).
Dixon finished his career fourth all-time in rushing yards with 3,188 yards on 528 carries).
He trails only Mike Mayweather (4,299), Carlton Jones (3,536) and Trent Steelman (3,320).
DEFENSE
Chris Carnegie made his 32nd career start, the most of any active player on the Army defense.
Safety and captain Geoffery Bacon returned to the lineup and was listed as a starter.
Bacon was injured in the Yale contest and has not played since Sept. 27. He made five tackles on Saturday.
Bacon finished his career with 284 tackles, which is tied for 16th all-time with George Mayes (1976-79).
Jeremy Timpf made a team-best 15 tackles.
Timpf led the team in tackles in 10 games this season.
Andrew King recorded two tackles for losses and a quarterback sack.
King registered a team-best 5.0 quarterback sacks in 2014.
Senior Joe Drummond tied his career-best with seven tackles. He also made seven tackles against Stony Brook in 2012.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Josh Jenkins blocked a punt for the second consecutive week.
Xavier Moss recovered the blocked punt and returned it seven yards for a touchdown, his first career special teams' touchdown.
Army led 7-0 early in the contest, the first time the Black Knights have scored first in the service academy rivalry since 2009.
Cale Brewer handled kickoff duties for Army for the fourth straight game. He kicked off twice for 111 yards, an average of 55.5 yards per kick. Alex Tardieu punted three times for 123 yards, an average of 41.0 yards per kick.
Daniel Grochowski kicked a 52-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, establishing his career best. The last Army player to kick a 50-plus-yard field goal was Alex Carlton when he booted a 51-yard kick against Vanderbilt on Oct. 10, 2009 at Michie Stadium.
Grochowski's 52-yard field goal is tied for second longest all-time in Academy history with four others.
The last Army kicker to convert a 52-yard field goal was Kurt Heiss vs. Navy on Dec. 3, 1994.
Grochowski and Heiss share the Army-Navy record for longest field goal.
IN ATTENDANCE
Among the crowd of 70,935 was Sean Callahan, the young man adopted by the Army Football team through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and the Yankees HOPE Week. Callahan has attended all five games at Michie Stadium this season, as well as the contest at Yankee Stadium.
Gen. Raymond Odierno, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, and Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, both West Point graduates, were in attendance.
