Wilson Earns Runner-Up Honors at IC4As

PRINCETON, N.J. – Army track and field wrapped up competition at the ECAC and IC4A Championships on Sunday afternoon with Black Knights competing across five events. The Army men finished in eighth place out of a field of 48 with 33 points, while the women did not accumulate a score.
Senior Scott Geary and junior Shane Jones kicked off the morning in the shot put, finishing in 31st and 34th, respectively. Geary recorded a throw of 14.94 meters followed by Jones with a heave of 14.51m.
Sophomore Jacob Drozd highlighted Army’s showing in the javelin by finishing third in a field of 25 with the third-best throw in Academy history. Drozd recorded a toss of 67.93m for the best by a Blac Knight since 2004.
After earning qualifying times in Saturday’s preliminaries, senior Kyler Martin and sophomore Clyde Wilson competed in Sunday’s finals in their respective events. Martin placed sixth in the finals with a time of 14.20, one day after moving up to third all-time at Army with his preliminary mark of 14.00.
After finishing third in Saturday’s prelims, Wilson climbed to second in Sunday’s finals with a time of 1:51.21.
Up next for the Black Knights is the NCAA Championship First Round. To qualify, competitors must rank in the top 48 in the East Region. Entering the weekend, six Black Knights ranked within the top 48 in seven events. Senior Scott Geary led the charge with a pair of qualifying marks, ranking 46th in the discus and 48th in the hammer. This season’s NCAA East Regional is scheduled for May 23-25 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
