Shuttle Relay Highlights Second Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Army track and field’s second day of competition at the Penn Relays was marked by controversy as the men’s shuttle hurdles relay squad recorded the fastest collegiate time but was not the event’s winner. The shuttle was one of four relays in action on Day 2 in Philadelphia.
Kyler Martin, Thomas Ryan, Taylor Andrews and James Holland teamed up for the hurdles relay in the Championship of America section. With Army ahead in the race, an official accidentally stepped in front of Andrews, tripping the Army freshman and Army did not finish the race.
After a discussion by the officials, Army was allowed to re-run the race in the Olympic Development division in which the Black Knights recorded a time of 57.72 seconds, besting the time recorded by the top finisher in the Championship of America section. After another decision by officials, both Army and Savannah State (58.07) were awarded recognition.
Army will conclude competition at the Penn Relays on Saturday beginning with the men’s hammer throw at 11 a.m.
