Army Falls In Elimination Game Of The PL Tournament

Hamilton, N.Y. - Top-seed and host Colgate pounded out 11 hits and Rachel LeCoq pitched a five-hit shutout in a 6-0 defeat of No. 4 Army in an elimination game at the Patriot League Tournament at the Eaton Street Field Friday afternoon.
Colgate (27-20, who fell 9-0 in five innings to No. 2 Lehigh in Game 3 (winners' bracket) of the tournament in the first game of the day, will face the Mountain Hawks in Saturday's championship game.
The Raiders jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then added an unearned run in the third. After coming up empty with bases loaded in the fourth inning, Colgate added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
After being tagged with the loss to Lehigh, LeCoq allowed Army into scoring position just twice. Alexis AuBuchon advanced to second base in the second inning on a wild pitch with no outs after reaching on an error, but the pitcher of the year retired the side on a strikeout and back-to-back groundouts. After reaching first on a fielder's choice with two outs in the fourth, AuBuchon moved to second on Haley Pypes and was retired on an unassisted play by the third baseman on Rachael Duval's grounder.
LeCoq, who walked five batters and struck out five, allowed just two runners on base over the final three frames (a hit by Meghan McGowan in the fifth and a walk to Alex Reynolds in the sixth) in improving to 18-8.
Pypes, who went the distance in both games, closed out her freshman year with 16 wins to rank fourth on Army's single-season chart and her 114 strikeouts list sixth.
The Black Knights posted a 28-25 mark this season under second-year head coach Michelle DePolo.
