Lisa Strack enters her seventh season with the Army West Point women's basketball program in 2020-21. This marks her third season as the program's associate head coach, a promotion she received after spending the previous four seasons as an assistant coach.
Head coach Dave Magarity announced the promotion for Strack from assistant to associate head coach in June of 2018.
"Lisa has done an exceptional job throughout her tenure with our program," Magarity said. "Her knowledge of the game combined with her recruiting experience at Army West Point has been critical to our success. She has been tremendously loyal and her work ethic is outstanding."
Since joining the West Point coaching staff, the Black Knights have posted a total record of 111-75 and have posted four winning seasons.
Strack was originally brought onto the women's basketball staff on July 1, 2014. Before coming to West Point, she spent two seasons as the video coordinator for the Virginia Tech women's basketball program after a four-year playing career at American University.
"I am fortunate and excited to have Lisa join our staff," Magarity said of Strack upon her hiring. "I have known her for quite a while and have always admired her toughness and work ethic as a player. She comes to West Point with solid experience and she will have a positive impact on our young team."
Strack played an important role in mentoring several Black Knights during the 2015-16 and 2014-15 seasons, with Army reaching the 20-win mark and advancing to a national postseason tournament each year.
In Strack's third year at West Point, the Black Knights captured their fifth-consecutive 20-win season after winning 22 games during the 2016-17 season.
Army completed the best season in team history in 2015-16, reaching a program-record 29 victories as part of a 29-3 overall record to match the Patriot League standard for most wins in a season. The 29 wins also gave the Cadets their fourth consecutive 20-win season to mark the longest streak of that kind in team history.
The Black Knights finished 17-1 in Patriot League play in 2015-16 and entered the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. Army set a number of Patriot League records that season, including widest margin of victory (+19.5), lowest opponent scoring average (50.8), and highest three-point percentage (.410). The Black Knights also rattled of 19 wins in a row during the year to establish new Patriot League and Academy records.
Strack spent the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons at Virginia Tech, where she worked as the video coordinator with the women's basketball team. During her time in Blacksburg, Va., Strack was responsible for breaking down film and assisting in recruiting visits.
No stranger to the Patriot League, Strack was a four-year standout guard at American University prior to taking the position at Virginia Tech.
A 1,000-point scorer and two-time All-Patriot League selection at American, Strack led the Eagles in scoring and rebounding during her senior year and earned Patriot League Player of the Year honors. As a senior, she was named American's Female Student-Athlete of the Year, while serving as a team captain and starting in all 31 games.
Strack capped her playing career by leading American to a program record-tying 23 victories, a 14-0 mark in the Patriot League and the school's third WNIT appearance in four seasons.
Strack graduated as just the ninth American women's basketball player to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in her career, finishing with 1,059 points and 500 rebounds. She was also the Patriot League's steals leader in 2011-12, registering 2.6 steals per game, and ranked in the top 10 in the conference in scoring and assists, with averages of 11.5 points per game and 2.8 assists per game.
Additionally, Strack was recognized on the 2010 Patriot League All-Tournament Team and garnered All-Rookie Team honors in 2009.
"It is truly a blessing to be here at this prestigious Academy," Strack said upon her hiring. "I played against Army for four years, and it always left a memorable impression on me."
A native of Langhorne, Pa., Strack graduated from American in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
