Kya Smith Named Patriot League Player of the Week
January 19, 2026 | Women's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a strong week that helped lead Army West Point women's basketball to a perfect 2-0 record, Kya Smith was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
This is the second time in the last three weeks that Smith, a junior from Lubbock, Texas, has earned the conference honor.
Smith averaged 15.5 points on 54.5 percent shooing over the two-game span, while also grabbing 7.0 rebounds and dishing out 2.5 assists. She continues to lead Army in scoring and rebounding this season with 14.9 points per game and 10.2 rebounds.
In Army's impressive 15-point win over Holy Cross at home on Wednesday, Smith had a game-high 18 points on 7-12 shooting, while taking in seven rebounds. As good as she was on offense, she was equally impressive on defense, as she recorded a career-high five steals. The Crusaders shot 32.7 percent from the field, and a key reason for that was Smith's impressive defensive presence in the paint.
The junior forward followed her showing on Wednesday with more strong play in Army's road win over American on Saturday. Smith had 13 points on 5-10 shooting. She added seven rebounds and four assists in the victory.
This season, Smith is one of 24 players in Division I who is averaging a double-double. Of those players, she ranks 10thin scoring and 20th in rebounds per game.
Army is sitting at 14-3 and tied atop the Patriot League standings with Navy. The Black Knights will welcome Bucknell to Christl Arena at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, before heading to Annapolis, Md., on Saturday for a showdown with Navy.
