In his 13 seasons at the Academy, Georgalas has been a vital asset both on the field and in recruiting. From 2012 through 2019, he played an integral role in shaping the Black Knights’ offense, which consistently averaged over 10 goals per game. In 2020, he transitioned to the defensive side, assuming the role of Defensive Coordinator and overseeing the man-down defense. His impact was immediate, as the Black Knights led the Patriot League and ranked second nationally in scoring defense (7.25) during the shortened 2020 season. The following season, Army maintained its defensive dominance, ranking fifth in the nation (9.27) while leading the conference. In 2023, the Black Knights finished second in the country in scoring defense (9.12), and Georgalas mentored AJ Pilate to All-American honors and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year recognition.
Army was a defensive powerhouse throughout the 2025 season, earning a 12-2 overall record, highlighted with a win over No. 5 North Carolina and climbing to No. 2 in the national rankings for their efforts. The Black Knights maintained the nation's top scoring defense and scoring margin throughout the season, holding their opponents to a combined 7.5 goals per game average while boasting an average of 14.2 goals per game themselves. Under Georgalas' direction, AJ Pilate earned his third consecutive Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year title as well as recognition as a USA Lacrosse and a USILA First Team All-American and a place on the Tewaaraton Top-25 finalist list. Will Coletti hit yet another milestone for the Black Knights with Georgalas' coaching as he became the Patriot League leader for career faceoff wins as he totaled 781 career faceoff wins at the end of the season.
The Black Knights continued their defensive excellence in 2024, finishing with an 11-3 overall record, including an overtime victory over No. 7 Syracuse. Army achieved a historic milestone, earning the program’s first-ever No. 1 national ranking for a two-week stretch. The Black Knights captured the Patriot League regular-season title. Georgalas played a pivotal role in developing a defensive unit that produced four Inside Lacrosse and USILA All-Americans AJ Pilate. Pilate repeated as Defensive Player of the Year.
Throughout his tenure, Georgalas has also worked extensively with Army’s faceoff specialists. He guided Will Coletti to a standout season in 2023, where he posted a .610 faceoff win percentage, ranking 10th in the nation and winning 252 draws Under Georgalas' direction, Army ranked fourth in the country in team faceoff win percentage (.610). He previously mentored standout faceoff specialists such as Derek Sipperly ’12, who finished second on Army’s single-season faceoff wins list, and Alex Daly ’16, a First Team All-Patriot League performer who ranked 10th nationally in faceoff win percentage (58.6%) during his sophomore campaign.
As Army’s goalkeeper coach from 2012 to 2019, Georgalas developed elite netminders, including two-time Honorable Mention All-American and three-time All-Patriot League goalkeeper Sam Somers ’15. Somers led the nation in goals-against average in 2013 and 2014 and was named Patriot League Goalie of the Year in 2015. He also mentored AJ Barretto, who became Army’s first rookie starting goalkeeper in over two decades and went on to finish his career as a four-year starter and a Third Team All-American.
Before his tenure at West Point, Georgalas spent five years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Cornell University. During his nine years with the Big Red as both a player and coach, Cornell posted a 102-37 record, won or shared eight Ivy League titles, and made three Final Four appearances, including a run to the National Championship in 2009. As an assistant coach, he oversaw faceoffs and defensive substitutions while also serving as the recruiting coordinator.
As a former defensive player, Georgalas was a two-time captain, leading the Big Red in 2005 to an 11-3 record, a perfect 6-0 Ivy League season, and its first outright Ivy title since 1987. That squad advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. He was selected to compete in the 64th annual North-South Classic and was drafted by the New Jersey Pride in the fifth round of the 2005 Major League Lacrosse collegiate draft.
