Cedrick Cunningham enters his first season on the Army coaching staff in 2026, returning to his alma mater as the assistant running backs coach. A former standout defensive playmaker and 2021 team captain for the Black Knights, Cunningham returns to the program following his military service.
Over a decorated four-year playing career for the Black Knights (2018–21), Cunningham appeared in 47 games, compiling 188 tackles and two interceptions. As a senior captain in 2021, the free safety anchored a defensive unit that powered Army to a 9-4 record, culminating in a 24-22 victory over Missouri in the Armed Forces Bowl, a contest in which he racked up a team-high 13 tackles.
His impactful tenure also featured a breakout junior campaign in 2020, highlighted by earning national recognition as the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week. The honor followed a dominant season-opening performance against Middle Tennessee State, where he registered his first career sack and a forced fumble.
A native of Cassatt, South Carolina, Cunningham originally arrived at West Point via the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS). Prior to his collegiate career, he was an All-State selection and the Kershaw County Player of the Year at North Central High School, where he also excelled in track and field and graduated on the honor roll.
Upon graduating from the United States Military Academy, Cunningham served as an officer in the Air Defense Artillery branch with the 69th Brigade, 1-44 ADA from 2022 to 2025.
