Maciariello brings more than 15 years of Division I coaching experience to West Point, with his experience including five seasons as the head coach at Siena College and as well as additional coaching stops at George Washington, Boston University and Fairfield.
Maciariello most recently served as the head coach at his alma mater, Siena, from 2019-24, where he guided the Saints to two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular-season championships and a MAAC Tournament title. During his tenure, Siena recorded four consecutive top-three conference finishes and developed multiple all-conference selections, including MAAC Players of the Year Manny Camper (2020-21) and Jalen Pickett (2019-20). Pickett went on to be selected in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.
In his first season leading the Saints in 2019-20, Maciariello guided Siena to a 20-win campaign, capturing both the MAAC regular-season and tournament championships. The Saints followed with a share of the conference regular-season championship in 2020-21, continuing the program's success under his leadership.
Before being named Siena's 18th head coach in March 2019, Maciariello served as an assistant coach for the Saints during the 2018-19 season. He helped guide Siena to a second-place MAAC finish and a nine-win improvement from the previous season. Serving as the team's defensive coordinator, Maciariello helped establish one of the conference's top defensive units, with the Saints ranking among the nation's top 50 teams in scoring defense.
Prior to returning to Siena, Maciariello spent four seasons as an assistant coach at George Washington from 2014-18. During his tenure, the Colonials made three national postseason appearances, highlighted by the program's 2016 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) championship. George Washington also established a program record with 28 victories during its championship campaign.
Maciariello previously spent three seasons at Boston University from 2011-14 under head coach Joe Jones. During his time with the Terriers, he helped the program make two national postseason appearances, including an NIT berth in 2013-14 after capturing the program's first Patriot League regular-season championship.
Before joining Boston University, Maciariello served three seasons at Fairfield from 2008-11 under head coach Ed Cooley. During his tenure, the Stags made two national postseason appearances, highlighted by a school-record 25-win campaign, a MAAC regular-season championship and an appearance in the second round of the 2011 NIT.
Maciariello began his collegiate coaching career at Siena as the director of basketball operations during the 2005-06 season under head coach Fran McCaffery, helping lay the foundation for a program that would go on to capture three consecutive MAAC championships and NCAA Tournament appearances from 2008-10.
Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Maciariello served as vice president and head coach of the Albany City Rocks AAU program for two seasons. During that time, he worked with numerous future Division I and professional standouts, including future NBA players Jimmer Fredette and Edwin Ubiles, along with Mark Lyons and Talor Battle.
A 2001 graduate of Siena, Maciariello earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and management, graduating cum laude. He played one season for the Saints after spending three seasons at the University of New Hampshire, where he earned Defensive Player of the Year honors and served as a team captain. During his senior season at Siena, he helped the Saints capture a share of the MAAC regular-season championship.
Following his collegiate playing career, Maciariello played professionally in Italy for four seasons, competing for Bignami Castel Maggiore, GS Basket Massafra, Virtus Rigusa and Cimberio Novara.
A native of Clifton Park, New York, Maciariello was inducted into the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. He and his wife, Laura, have three children, Reese, Matteo and Caden.
