- Title:
- Assistant Special Teams Coach
Blake Catlett enters his first season on the Army coaching staff in 2026, serving as the program's Assistant Special Teams Coach. Catlett arrived on the Banks of the Hudson following a stint at Samford University, where he served as the defensive ends and outside linebackers coach.
During his tenure at Samford, Catlett helped spearhead a defensive front that generated 57 tackles for loss and 20 sacks during the 2025 campaign. In addition to his on-field coaching duties, he managed extensive recruiting territories across Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Prior to his time at Samford, Catlett spent three seasons at Middle Tennessee State University under longtime head coach Rick Stockstill. He served as the linebackers defensive quality control coach for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, before transitioning to a dual defensive and special teams quality control role for the 2023 campaign. In Murfreesboro, Catlett was responsible for opponent film breakdown, weekly opponent scouting reports, organizing daily practice schedules and scripts, and coordinating the scout teams.
With Catlett on staff, the Blue Raiders captured consecutive bowl victories in the 2021 Bahamas Bowl and the 2022 Hawaii Bowl, a stretch that also featured a signature upset victory at No. 25 Miami in 2022. Following the 2023 season, he briefly elevated to MTSU's director of player personnel during the 2024 offseason before making the move to Samford.
Catlett began his collegiate coaching career at Austin Peay State University during the spring 2021 FCS season, working as an offensive quality control coach with the tight ends and running backs during a 4-2 campaign for the Governors.
A native of Jackson, Tennessee, Catlett earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Middle Tennessee State University in December 2020, where he also played offensive line for the Blue Raiders.
