Sport Oversight: Men's and Women's XC/Track and Field and Men's Basketball (secondary)
Sydney Griffin was promoted to Associate Athletics Director in March 2023 and joined the Black Knights as the Assistant Athletics Director of External Strategy and Operations in August 2021.
In her role, Griffin oversees both marketing and video departments and focuses on the strategic alignment of time and resource allocation relative to all external areas (athletic communications, digital/social strategies, creative and video services, fundraising, broadcasting, licensing and branding) in the athletic department. Griffin works closely with Sr. Associate Athletics Director of External Operations, Tom Theodorakis, to prioritize substantive matters in these areas to maximize fan experience that ultimately enhance the cadet-athlete experience. Additional responsibilities include serving on the Athletics Director’s Executive Staff, serving the lead on department initiatives and serving in various capacities in the Army-Navy Star Series.
Griffin joined the Black Knights after previously serving as the Chief of Staff to the Director of Athletics at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. During her tenure with the Governors, she worked to oversee the department's front office and administrative operations. Griffin additionally assisted in leading strategic initiatives as a member the Athletic Director's cabinet and executive staff, serving on numerous head coach search committees including football and both basketball programs and served as a sport administrator for multiple programs.
Prior to her stint at Austin Peay, Griffin spent a year at the University of Notre Dame as an Athletics Administration Fellow, where she reported to two departments; Administration and aiding in areas of Fighting Irish Media. She reported directly to the Chief Strategy Officer and the Director of Athletics.

A Marietta, Ga. native, Griffin's resume additionally boasts international experience as she spent two years in London, England completing a Master of Science in Sport Management from the University of East London and competing in 8 different European countries as a semi-professional track and field athlete.
A 2016 graduate of Elon University, Griffin was a six-time individual conference medalist, 3-time NCAA East Regional Qualifier and the Most Outstanding Performer of the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association's (CAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championship. She led her team to back-to-back CAA titles that year, winning the 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100 relay. She later capped off her career by earning Elon's 2016 Stein H. Basnight Outstanding Athlete of the Year Award.
During the completion of her bachelor's degree in psychology and exercise science at Elon University, Griffin participated in the Duke Athletics Open Door Initiative, an internship program initiated to provide ethnic minority undergraduates with an opportunity to gain experience and exposure to various career paths within Duke Athletics.
She is a certified USA Track & Field (USATF) Level 1 Coach and currently serves as the Vice President of the USATF Tennessee Association. She also represents the Patriot League on the NCAA Division I Cross Country/Track and Field Committee.
