Lara Vivolo enters her second season with the Army West Point women's rugby program in 2017-18.
Vivolo comes to West Point after assisting the Pelham High School to a second-place finish at nationals and states in the spring of 2016. She started the first ever women's club program at Manhattanville College in the fall of 2015 in addition to the girls and boys high school varsity programs at Rye High School that spring. Her coaching experience spans multiple sports, including high school varsity girls and boys swimming, basketball and track and field during her 17-year career as a teacher in the public school system in Tarrytown, N.Y.
As an athlete, Vivolo was a two-sport athlete at SUNY Cortland as a swimmer and rugger. She graduated in the spring of 1999. Upon graduation, Vivolo joined the New York Rugby Club in the fall of '99, playing throughout the next 11 years. During that time, Vivolo aided the team to two national championships in 2006 and 2010. She also played for hte Northeast All-Stars from 2002-2010, garnering a multitude of all-star titles.
Vivolo's playing career then took her out to the U.S. national team training camps. In 2006, she was asked to move from lock to tight head prop, where she would play throughout nine international caps with the national team in 2008 at the Nations Cup in England. She would play for the U.S. squad for the following two years, including an appearance in the 2010 Women's World Cup where the United States placed fifth.
