Kennedi Thompson enters her second season as an assistant coach with the Army Women’s Basketball program.
Previously, Thompson served as the director of operations for the Holy Cross Women's Basketball team during the 2021-2022 season. Thompson was a part of the Crusaders coaching staff that won the Patriot League regular-season title for the first time since the 2004-2005 season. While Thompson was with the Crusaders, the team recorded its first 20-win season since the 2013-2014 season, as well, as setting the program's conference win mark with 14 while having their first postseason bid to the WNIT since the 2001-2002 season.
In addition, Thompson's role on the staff included coordinating and organizing game day logistics, assisting in guard/post skill work, collaborating with the recruiting coordinator and aiding assistant coaches with the gathering of film for scouting reports.
Thompson had a two-season stint as a graduate assistant at St. Francis College in Brooklyn. She supervised team managers, assisted in film breakdown, spearheaded community service events, and managed the team's social media platforms.
Thompson graduated in 2019 from Binghamton University where she played four years on the women's basketball team. She was a part of the Bearcats' successful 2017-2018 season when the team finished the season with 20-plus wins, the program's highest number of wins since the 2010-11 season. In that same season, the Bearcats received a bid to the WBI, making this the first time the program reached a national postseason tournament.
While a Bearcat, Thompson was selected as one of 56 women's basketball players across the country to participate in the WBCA "So You Want to Be A Coach" program. Additionally, she was a member of the Athletic Leadership Institute for three years and served on the Student-Athlete Mental Health Committee.
A native of Mullica Hill, N.J., Thompson owns a master's degree in psychology from St. Francis College and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Binghamton University.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kennedi to our staff for this upcoming season," said coach Traversi. "Kennedi is diligent, proactive, and organized in all facets of her work. She has a passion that is contagious and that our cadet-athletes will immediately be drawn to. With previous experience and success in the Patriot League, Kennedi understands the competitiveness of the conference and what it takes to win at this level."
"I would like to start out by saying the United States Military Academy is an incredible institution that has produced some of the country's greatest leaders," said Thompson. "With that, Army has been home to many successful women's basketball players as well as producing many successful seasons. Coach Traversi's passion and love for the game of basketball, as well as her ability to inspire her cadet-athletes, is something that resonated with me. I am beyond excited to be a part of this program and can't wait to get started."
