Steven Ortiz completed his first season as assistant coach in 2024, serving as the primary goalkeeping coach for the Black Knights.
Ortiz has overseen the development of underclassmen goalkeepers Blair Camargo and Keanu Likewise into proven, consistant starters in Patriot League play.
Army knocked off both Air Force and Navy in 2024 by 2-1 scorelines. Army defeated both Air Force and Navy in the same season for just the fifth time in program history, and the first time since 2016. Army is now 11-6-5 in its last 22 fixtures vs. academy rivals and has gone unbeaten against academies for the second season in a row.
The native of Linden, N.J. comes to West Point from STA Soccer, a youth soccer club based in New Jersey. With STA, he served as head goalkeepers coach for STA Mount Olive in 2023 and moved to a similar capacity with STA Morristown in 2024.
From 2018-2020, Ortiz worked in the New York Red Bulls Academy, working in summer camps including RDS and regular day and residential camps. He assisted goalkeeper coach Stephen Palmer during camps and pre-academy sessions. For seven months Ortiz also served as the interim goalkeeper coach for the pre-academy.
Previously, from 2017 to 2018, Ortiz coached with Cedar Stars Academy in New Jersey.
Ortiz entered the coaching sphere after stints playing for Madriz FC in the Nicaraguan Liga Primera, and for the National Independent Soccer Association's Flower City Union. Before his professional playing career, Ortiz played at Kean University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
