Danny Breda
- Title:
- Assistant Men's Rugby Coach
Army West Point men’s rugby has announced Danny Breda as its newest assistant coach heading into the 2026 Spring season.
Breda joins the staff led by head coach Matt Sherman as well as current assistant Jake Mizell.
Breda comes to West Point after previously serving as head coach at Trine University in Indiana. As the first head rugby coach at Trine, Breda was tasked with founding, coaching and all other aspects of running the program. In his time at the northeast Indiana college from 2021-2025, Breda elevated the Thunder from the NCR to a CRAA D1AA program.
Breda also served as an assistant coach with the Midwest Thunderbirds and Chicago Hounds Major League Rugby Academy squad, from 2022 onward. That role was his second stint in youth academy rugby, after previously spending 2021 as head coach of Old Glory DC’s U18 boys academy side.
From 2020-22, Breda was head coach at Loyola Blakefield High School in Towson, Md., where he restarted the rugby program after COVID and led the program to back-to-back Maryland state championships. Before Loyola Blakefield, Breda served as assistant coach at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. and helped lead the prep school to the 2018 high school national title.
Breda’s first coaching position came at Mount St. Mary’s (MD), where from 2016-19 he served as assistant coach for the 15’s squad as head rugby sevens coach. At The Mount, Breda guided the program in its transition to a CRAA D1AA schedule, finishing 9-2 in its first year at that tier and placing second in the conference. In 2017, the sevens squad led by Breda won the Philadelphia Cup at the Collegiate Ruby Championship challenge division.
Breda was a teammate of Mizell at Arkansas State, playing one Varsity Cup Semifinal and two quarterfinals with the Red Wolves. He also starred for Rockey Gorge Rugby Club, where he started at hooker.
