Baseball’s Ates Named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week
April 20, 2026 | Baseball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point baseball's Trey Ates was named Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
The senior from Dallas, Texas pitched the team's third complete game of the season in Saturday's doubleheader nightcap vs. Bucknell, and the only one so far in 2026 lasting nine innings.
Both his innings pitched total and his eight strikeouts were new career-highs. Ates threw 121 pitches, the second-most in his career behind only his 129 vs. Navy on March 29. After surrendering his sole run allowed in the fifth, Ates went his final 16 batters faced without giving up a hit as the Black Knights would secure the doubleheader sweep and series win with a 5-1 victory.
The nine-inning complete-game was the first by a Black Knight since Justin Lehman vs. Navy on April 26, 2024. Ates' eight strikeouts also tied Kevin Reavey's mark set vs. Holy Cross on March 14 for most by a Black Knight this year.
