WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point head football coach Jeff Monken has announced the promotion of Sean Saturnio to Associate Head Coach. Saturnio will continue to serve as the Black Knights' special teams coordinator, entering his 13th season on staff in 2026.
"Sean has been an integral part of our program's success for more than a decade," said Monken. "His leadership, creativity, and commitment to developing our student-athletes make him incredibly deserving of this promotion."
With his promotion to Associate Head Coach, Saturnio will continue to play a vital role in shaping the culture and success of Army West Point football, particularly on special teams.
Saturnio has built one of the nation's premier special teams units during his tenure, consistently producing game-changing plays and earning national recognition. In 2024, he was named the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year, an honor recognizing excellence in community service, commitment to student-athletes, on-field success, and professional involvement.
During the 2025 season, Saturnio mentored sophomore kicker Dawson Jones, who connected on 15 field goals—tied for the third-most in a single season in program history.
In 2024, Saturnio mentored senior kicker Trey Gronotte to a record-breaking season, as he set the program mark for most PATs made in a single season (57), finishing his career a perfect 57-for-57.
In 2023, Army blocked punts in back-to-back games that resulted in touchdowns, showcasing the unit's aggressive and opportunistic approach. That season also featured standout performances from kicker Quinn Maretzki, who finished perfect on PATs (25-for-25) and ranked among the most accurate kickers in program history.
Saturnio has twice been recognized by the AFCA, earning finalist honors in 2022 before claiming the national award in 2024. His units have regularly ranked among the nation's leaders in blocked kicks and punts, including a standout 2020 season in which Army led the country in both categories.
A native of Hilo, Hawai'i, Saturnio brings more than 25 years of coaching experience to his role. Before West Point, he spent time at Georgia Southern and served as a successful high school head coach at Waipahu High School.
Saturnio and his wife, Sharon, have four children—Caitlin, Christina, Zachary, and Isaiah—and two grandchildren, Maya and Ezekiel.
