CDT Brenner has excelled across all pillars of Cadet performance, but his achievements as a scholar athlete have been truly exemplary. He is contributing to the men's gymnastics program in competition, in the classroom, and through his service to his teammates. He is an outstanding representative of the gymnastics program, the Corps of Cadets, and the United States Military Academy as February's Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
Â
Preston Achter '27 (Men's Tennis)
CDT Preston Achter, a junior and space science major on the Army West Point men's tennis team, exemplifies excellence across the academic and athletic pillars at the Academy. As a Cow navigating one of the most demanding years in a rigorous STEM curriculum, he has continued to perform at an exceptional level in the classroom while competing as a key contributor for the Black Knights.
Â
On the court, Achter has proven himself to be a resilient and dependable competitor. Most notably, he clinched the team victory over Sacred Heart with a gritty, come-from-behind 2–6, 6–3, 6–3 win at No. 6 singles. Battling through a significant cold and chest congestion, he demonstrated remarkable mental toughness and competitive resolve, embodying the perseverance expected of Army athletes. Earlier in the season, he helped Army secure the doubles point in a victory over Stonehill College on 1 February and contributed another key win at No. 6 singles in the team's defeat of Long Island University that same day. His ability to deliver in pressure moments reflects both his preparation and his unwavering commitment to the team's success.
Â
Equally impressive is Achter's performance in the academic pillar. As a space science major, which is one of the Academy's more challenging programs, he maintains a cumulative QPA (CQPA) of 3.957. Last semester, he achieved an extraordinary 4.036 term QPA, and he currently holds nearly straight A's at the six-week mark this semester. His academic record reflects not only intellectual ability, but also discipline, time management, and a steadfast commitment to excellence. Balancing the demands of Division I athletics with an intensive STEM curriculum is no small feat, yet Achter continues to set the standard for his teammates.
Â
CDT Achter's performance speaks to the holistic development we strive to cultivate in Corps Squad athletes. He approaches every responsibility with focus, humility, and a determination to improve. His example reinforces the culture of accountability and excellence within the men's tennis program.
Â
Head Coach Randy Rowley adds, "From the moment Preston arrived at West Point, it was clear he possessed the discipline and drive to excel at the highest level. What continues to impress our staff is his ability to thrive in one of the Academy's most demanding academic majors while competing with toughness and composure on the court. His come-from-behind clinching win against Sacred Heart, while battling illness, is a testament to his character and competitive spirit. He prepares the same way for a physics exam as he does for a third-set tiebreaker – with focus, grit, and complete commitment. Preston represents exactly what we want our cadet-athletes to be: resilient competitors, outstanding students, and future Army officers of character."
Â
CDT Achter's achievements across the academic and athletic pillars make him exceptionally deserving of recognition as a Corps Squad Scholar-Athlete of the Month. He embodies the very best of Army West Point men's tennis and the Corps of Cadets.
Â
Alex Oshidar '27 (Women's Tennis)
CDT Alexandra Oshidar, Class of 2027, is the ultimate teammate on the court, in the classroom, and in the Corps. As a law and legal studies major, Oshidar has maintained a 4.2 GPA, putting her in the top 5% of her class as a scholar. While many cadets excel individually in the classroom, Oshidar puts in the time for her teammates and her company mates to raise their own academic performance, ensuring the Army women's tennis team has one of the highest NCAA team GPAs at West Point.Â
Â
Oshidar consistently performs as both a doubles and singles player since 2023, with a personal record of 27-8 in singles and 23-13 in doubles, and is a major contributor to the team's current record of 13-3 for the 2025-2026 season. In a sport known for mental toughness, she demonstrates the resilience to bounce back and to capitalize on opportunities. Oshidar routinely steps up at practice, lifts, and the quiet moments in between, demonstrating a strength of character focused on "our performance" not "my performance."
Â
Her humble leadership on the court and in the classroom are matched with an incredible leadership style in the Corps of Cadets. As a top-notch Squad Leader at Cadet Field Training, Oshidar ensured her squad members exceeded her own performance because the team matters more to her. Her training support for Sandhurst in the fall set her team up to be the #1 USMA company team heading into the spring. Serving as a platoon sergeant this spring, she sets a clear example to her 40 cadets of how to do your best in all endeavors, to learn from mistakes, and above all, to be the best teammate.
