Baseball Alum Derek Berg Selected to Pirates Major League Spring Training as Non-Roster Invitee

BRADENTON, Fla. – Army West Point baseball alum Derek Berg has been selected to Pittsburgh Pirates major league spring training as a non-roster invitee.

The catcher will report to camp in Bradenton, Fla. with major league pitchers and catchers on the week of February 11.

Berg enters his second full season in the Pirates' minor league system. A season ago, the Class of 2024 graduate appeared for Single-A Bradenton, High-A Greensboro and finished the year with Double-A Altoona.

In 2024, Berg was selected by the Pirates in the 10th Round with the No. 294 overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft, becoming the 21st West Point graduate to be selected in the MLB Draft.

As a senior, Berg led the Black Knights to their sixth consecutive Patriot League Tournament title and NCAA Regional appearance.
