February 19, 2026 | General
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point Athletics Association's Academic Support team has selected its scholar-athletes for the month of January, recognizing men's basketball's Tate Laczkowski and women's basketball's Camryn Tade.
Â
Tate Laczkowski '27 (Men's Basketball)
Cadet Tate Laczkowski, a junior forward on the Army Men's Basketball team, exemplifies excellence across all pillars of the United States Military Academy (USMA). A Management major from Dallas, Texas, CDT Laczkowski consistently demonstrates what it means to be a scholar-athlete and leader of character, balancing demanding Division I basketball commitments with academic distinction and meaningful service to the Corps of Cadets.
Â
Academically, CDT Laczkowski is firmly in the top half of his class, earning a 3.565 Academic Program Cumulative GPA, complemented by a 2.966 Military Program cumulative and a 3.293 Physical Program cumulative score. He was named to the Dean's List in Term 2026-1, marking the fourth time he has earned this prestigious recognition during his cadet career. As a Management major, Tate consistently performs at a high level in a rigorous academic curriculum while managing the extraordinary time demands of Division I athletics.
Â
Within the Corps of Cadets, CDT Laczkowski served last semester as his company's Regulations and Discipline (R&D) Officer, a role requiring maturity, judgment, and attention to detail. In this capacity, he helped ensure adherence to standards and discipline while maintaining accountability and professionalism across the company. Balancing this responsibility alongside his academic workload and basketball obligations, Tate performed his duties with quiet competence and consistency. His Tactical Officer, CPT Chad Powers, B4 Buffaloes, describes him as follows:
"CDT Laczkowski is best described as relentless. CDT Laczkowski is a model student who exudes selfless service, positivity, and a resilient attitude. His ability to strive for growth and develop others through difficult circumstances is an inspiration to his fellow cadets. He is dedicated, dutiful, and always willing to help. He is a leader both on the court and in the barracks."
Â
On the court, CDT Laczkowski has been a cornerstone of the Army Men's Basketball team this season. A first-time starter this year, he has started every game for the Black Knights and has really started to come into his own as Patriot League play has begun. In his last three games versus Binghamton, Lehigh, and Colgate, Tate has set career highs in scoring and rebounding, while averaging 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game, shooting 70% from the floor. His impact on the team can best be described by Head Coach Kevin Kuwik:
"After dealing with multiple injuries over his first two seasons, Tate has stepped into a key role for us and made tremendous strides on the court. I expect him to only continue to improve as he gains additional experience and confidence. Additionally, on a young team with 13 yuks and plebes and only five firsties and cows, Tate has set a great example and shown exemplary leadership in the classroom, locker room, and as part of the Corps for his young teammates. He is on track to be to be a captain for our team next year, and he is well on his way to being a great junior officer."
Â
Through sustained excellence in the classroom, dedicated service within the Corps, and consistent high-level performance on the basketball court, CDT Tate Laczkowski represents the very best of West Point's scholar-athletes. He is highly deserving of recognition as a West Point Scholar-Athlete of the Month.
Â
Camryn Tade '27 (Women's Basketball)
Cadet Camryn Tade embodies the Women's Basketball team's motto of "Set the Tone." A Texas native, Camryn is a natural leader both on the court and in the classroom. She successfully balances the demanding requirements of being a cadet-athlete—an outstanding teammate on the basketball court and within Company G2—while performing exceptionally well across the academic, physical, and military pillars, particularly given the significant time demands of the sport.
Â
Cadet Tade "sets the tone" every day in practice, consistently earning the responsibility of guarding the opponent's best players. This season, Tade has been an integral part of the team's success. She ranks second on the team in points per game (12.1), field-goal percentage (49%), and three-point percentage (40%), and she is sixth overall in the conference in three-point shooting percentage. Tade's ability to knock down threes at a high rate, combined with her strength and effectiveness attacking downhill, makes her a versatile and extremely difficult guard to defend. She recorded her career high in the win against Loyola Maryland on January 7th with 26 points. Despite playing the guard position, Tade is second on the team in offensive rebounds (20), which is remarkable and speaks to her relentless effort. Her ability to crash the offensive glass is crucial in generating second-chance opportunities for our team. She also leads the entire conference in free-throw percentage (83%). Additionally, she leads the team in assist-to-turnover ratio and ranks third overall in the conference.
Â
Defensively, the Black Knights rely on Tade to guard the opposing team's top offensive player, where she consistently works to limit their scoring opportunities. She is a completely selfless player, willing to assume any role or position necessary to secure success for the program. She is emotionally poised, physically dominant, and skillfully executes under pressure while elevating those around her—remaining determined to win regardless of the situation on the court or the scoreboard. She is the team's best defensive player and its grittiest competitor, serving as the catalyst for a contagious toughness that makes Army Women's Basketball exceptionally difficult to play against. Equally important, she is humble and maintains a strong growth mindset, constantly striving to improve and demonstrating exceptional coachability. Beyond her athletic ability, Cadet Tade is an outstanding teammate and leader who genuinely cares for her peers on the team and within Company G2.
Â
Beyond her athletic success, Cadet Tade's academic performance is equally commendable. She has steadily improved her cumulative GPA from 3.10 to 3.39 at West Point, earning a 3.60 GPA this past fall term. She also received seven positive Cadet Observation Reports recognizing her classroom engagement, support of peers, and overall academic excellence. As she does on the basketball court, Cadet Tade leads by example and helps set a strong academic culture among her peers.
Â
Likewise, Cadet Tade continues to demonstrate strong military leadership within the Corps as a Team Leader. This year, she earned a 3.33 GPA for the term while maintaining a 2.96 cumulative GPA, reflecting consistent performance as a developing Army leader. In addition, she remains committed to enhancing her physical fitness and mental toughness, sustaining a 3.23 cumulative physical performance score and earning a 495 on the Army Fitness Test this past year.
Â
In conclusion, Cadet Tade's performance across all pillars speaks to her consistent excellence over the past years. Balancing these responsibilities can be particularly challenging given the significant time demands placed on cadet-athletes outside their companies, making her sustained success especially noteworthy. She has earned the genuine trust and respect of her peers, teammates, and coaches through her actions and character. Although she does not hold the title of team captain, her behavior and leadership speak for themselves—consistently inspiring those around her to persevere on the court, in the classroom, and in the fields of military training. Cadet Tade is a natural leader who motivates her team, peers, and classmates to achieve victory in every arena.
