Women’s Basketball Defeats Boston U, Records 10th Road Win of Season

BOSTON – For the 10th time this season, the Army West Point women's basketball team went into a hostile environment and came away with a victory, as the Black Knights took down Boston University 69-62 at Case Gym on Wednesday night,
Army (19-5, 10-3) got a big game from its lone senior, Reese Ericson, and made clutch plays late to finish of the season sweep of Boston (7-17, 3-10) and win its third consecutive game. Ericson led all players with a season-high 19 points.
The Black Knights are continuing to play better offense as of late, and ball control has been at the center of it. A key to Wednesday's victory was Army's 19 assists to just eight turnovers.
The Wilson sisters got the Army scoring started, as Taylor Wilson knocked down a three to open the game and Brooke Wilson followed with a bucket of her own. At the opening media timeout, the Black Knights held a 10-4 advantage.
Ericson capped off Army's strong first quarter with a big three to make its lead 18-11 going into the second. The Black Knights were 7-15 shooting in the period, while holding the Terriers to 5-13.
Boston opened the second period of play on a 7-0 run to even things up at 18. Reganne Reardon snapped the Black Knights scoreless drought on a mid-range jumper and Army got back to its style of play.
With Army leading 24-21, Taylor Wilson knocked down her second three of the game and it was all Black Knights for the next three minutes of game action. Wilson followed her three with a pair of free-throws. Fiona Hastick capitalized on a Terrier turnover to make her first basket of the night. Ericson gave Army its longest run of the night – 10-0 – after knocking down a huge three to put Army up 34-21.
The Black Knights took a 38-24 lead into the halftime break. Through 20 minutes of action Army was shooting 45.2 percent, which included making six of its 14 three-point attempts. Ericson had 10 points to lead Army. On the other side of the court, Boston was shooting 47.6 percent from the field on 10 fewer attempts than the Black Knights.
Army had its worst offensive stretch in the third quarter, scoring just 13 points. With 6:46 left before the fourth, Army had its largest lead of the game at 43-24 but was outscored 18-8 the remainer of the period. The Black Knights took a 51-42 advantage into the final quarter of regulation.
Boston went 5-10 from the field in the period – 5-6 from the line – while Army was 5-14 shooting.
The Black Knight's lead held around the 10-point mark for most of the fourth quarter, as the two teams went back and forth. However, Boston was able to cut its deficit to just six with 1:58 left to play.
Needing a big answer, Ericson stepped up to make her sixth three of the night with 1:18 left to push the Army lead back up to nine. From there on out, it was a free-throw game and Tade was able to put the game away with five free-throws in the final minute.

In addition to Ericson's team-high 19 points, Tade added 17 and Taylor Wilson had 10. Tade has now scored 12-plus points in 11 of the last 14 games.
The Black Knights finished the game shooting 44.4 percent from the field, while Boston shot 51.2 percent. Inés Monteagudo led the Terriers with 15 points.
Kya Smith led Army with six assists, while six other players logged at least one. On the other side, Boston had 13 assists while committing 16 turnovers. Taylor Wilson had a game-high four steals.
Also led by Wilson (seven), Army won the rebounding battle 29-24.
Army led the scoring in points off turnovers (25-8), points in the paint (26-24) and second chance points (12-3).
