Happy 2026! As we begin the new year, I'm writing while preparing to travel to Miami for the College Football Playoff National Championship – an event that brings together leaders from across college athletics. The CFP Championship provides a valuable opportunity to connect with our American Conference counterparts and industry colleagues to discuss the rapidly evolving landscape of college sports, from governance and competitive equity to the student/cadet-athlete experience. These conversations are essential as we ensure Army West Point Athletics remains proactive, principled, and positioned to compete and win at the highest level. As always, our focus remains clear: developing leaders of character, strengthening our programs, and proudly representing the United States Military Academy on every stage.
Â
SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM!
I am very proud to report that we had 537 out of 1,169 cadet-athletes and team managers make the Dean's List (3.0 or higher) this past Fall semester - nearly 50% of all of our cadet-athletes and team managers. 21 of those cadets earned a 4.0 or above. Tremendous work by our cadet-athletes and support staff.
Â
SPRING TERM BEGINS
After a snowy holiday break up here in New York, the cadets are back on post and begin their spring term this week. The first week back in the classroom culminates in the 500th Weekend celebration for the Class of 2026. The two-day event includes 500th Night, which celebrates that the 'cow' class has 500 days remaining until their graduation and commissioning as Army officers.

ARMY DEFEATS UCONN 41-16 AT FENWAY BOWL
In an incredible night of competition, the Army West Point Black Knights defeated the UConn Huskies 41-16 on the gridiron at Fenway Park at the 2026 Wasabi Fenway Bowl on December 27. The electric environment and exciting game capped off an exceptional season for the Black Knights with their third consecutive bowl win as well as their sixth bowl win in the last ten years. Join me in extending congratulations to Coach Monken (excited he didn't get hurt in the chase for the Powerade shower) and the Black Knights! Â

WRESTLING IN FULL SWING
The Army West Point wrestling team's 2025-26 campaign is in full swing as the team hits the midpoint of their season. The Black Knights earned sixth place at the Southern Scuffle last weekend at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga with 91.5 team points. The squad looks to gain momentum for the second half of their season as they travel to Lancaster, Pa. for the Lehman Open at Franklin and Marshall on Friday, Jan. 9.

HOCKEY UPSETS NO. 12 NORTHEASTERN AHEAD OF RETURN TO LEAGUE PLAY
Army hockey continued its run of success against impressive opponents this season when the Black Knights upset the then-No. 12 ranked Northeastern Huskies 5-2 last Friday to ring in the new year with a statement win at Tate Rink. Army's five unanswered goals to take and maintain the lead through the final whistle earned the squad its fourth win over a Hockey East team this season. The squad hits the road this weekend for a conference series at Mercyhurst over January 9th and 10th.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS CONTINUE TO COMPETE
Christl Arena is a hub of activity for the Black Knights this season as our men's and women's basketball teams continue to gain momentum as their seasons progress. Our women put up an impressive December slate with four wins in five games and started their 2026 campaign off with an 81-49 win over Patriot League foe Colgate. The men earned four wins in five games in December as well, including an 85-78 overtime win at Lehigh on New Year's Eve. The two teams continue with Patriot League play this weekend when they face Boston University with the men playing in Boston and the women welcoming the Terriers to Christl Arena with tipoff set for 1 p.m. ET for both games.

TRACK & FIELD TAKES THE STARTING LINE FOR THE WEST POINT INVITATIONAL
After a tremendous season on the cross country course, the Black Knights are ready to take the track for their first meet of 2026 this weekend as they host the West Point Invitational on Saturday. Our squad has an industrious schedule ahead of them for their indoor campaign and we look forward to cheering them on towards the finish line!

SWIMMING & DIVING CELEBRATES FIRSTIE DAY
With the postseason drawing near, Army West Point swimming & diving is set to host their Firstie Day on Saturday against Patriot League opponent Bucknell. The Black Knights have been heating up in the pool this season and will look to repeat their sweep over the Bison from last season. Join us at Crandall Pool on Saturday to celebrate the contributions this incredible Firstie class have made to their programs across their four seasons with Army West Point Swimming & Diving.
Â
UPCOMING EVENTS
We have many exciting athletic events coming up across all of our varsity sports including gymnastics heading to Penn State on Sunday, January 11, rifle hosting North Georgia at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center on Saturday, January 17, and the onset of our 2026 men's lacrosse and women's lacrosse seasons in a few short weeks. Check in regularly with our composite schedule to see what our Black Knights have in store!
Â
STAR SERIES STANDINGS
Only eight events remain in the 2025-26 Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. With the result of the 2025 Army-Navy Game in December, Navy currently leads the series 7-4-1. Join me in cheering on our Black Knights as they battle to win the Star Series for the second season in a row as rifle and indoor track & field teams gear up to take on the Midshipmen on February 7th for the next set of events in the 2025-26 Army-Navy Star Series.
Â
FOOTBALL SEASON FEEDBACK
As we conclude the 2025 football season and prepare for an exciting 2026 season, we thank our fans for their patience during the most significant construction and game day enhancements in West Point history. Our focus remains on delivering the best game day experience in the nation, and we appreciate fans sharing feedback through post-game surveys. We closely analyze every single response with over 9,000 unique football account submissions over just the past four seasons.
Â
These primary areas of football game day feedback we have received include (but are not limited to):
- Stadium Lines
- Concessions
- Game Day Shuttles
- Security & Entry
- Parking Operations
With the Michie Stadium Preservation Project set for completion ahead of the 2026 season, we aren't just unveiling a new side of the stadium; we are unveiling a smoother game day. We're excited to eliminate many of the construction-driven bottlenecks seen over the last two seasons which have played a major challenge across the board in terms of some of the biggest survey concerns noted above. This will give the entire Army West Point fanbase at Michie Stadium room to spread out when moving across the venue. Ensuring that in-stadium ingress and egress are efficient, safe, and seamless as much as we are able to is a priority, blending modern efficiency with the charm of our historic home built over a hundred years ago.
Â
West Point is the most unique environment within the collegiate athletics landscape. Its uniqueness also brings along many geographic challenges where we are continually working on innovative solutions year over year. Whether it's football, or any of our other sports, we will not remain complacent in terms of finding new additions and solutions to enhance your game day experience.
Â
Supporting these efforts as well is the inaugural Army West Point Fan Council, launched last fall and comprised of 28 passionate alumni and community members dedicated to enhancing the fan experience, expanding the Army West Point brand, and increasing awareness of the United States Military Academy.
Â
THANK YOU
I'd ask you to continue to do what you can to support Army West Point Athletics and our cadet-athletes by:
• Planning to attend athletics events and competitions this spring – home and on the road!
• Purchasing season tickets, joining the Army A Club, and identifying a corporate partner
• Get others to do the same
