Men’s Tennis Closes Out Opening Weekend with a Pair of Victories

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's tennis team closed out its opening weekend of spring play with a 4-0 win over St. Bonaventure and a 4-1 win over Sacred on Saturday at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Army (3-0) had a perfect first weekend of the spring season, as it also defeated Pratt CC on Thursday afternoon.
Army vs. St. Bonaventure
It was all Army in the opening duel of the day. Rudy Mazzola and Matias Feoli kicked things off with a strong showing in the top doubles spot, recording a 6-2 win. Preston Achter and Alan Ton clinched the opening point with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Davis McDonald doubled Army's lead to 2-0 with a 6-0, 3-0, ret. Victory in the No. 6 spot. On court three, Ton got Army within one point of the match victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Mazzola finished things off at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
Army vs. Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart got off to a strong start winning the doubles point after securing victories in the No. 1 and 2 spots.
Army bounced back in singles though, as Jackson Armistead evened the score at 1-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1. Ton gave Army the lead in the second spot with a 6-4, 6-0 decision.
Freshman Tucker Culpepper got the Black Knights on the brink of victory with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 4. Achter clinched the match with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.
