WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Athletics celebrated a night of tradition, achievement, and legacy on Friday, September 19, as five new members were officially inducted into the Army Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Eisenhower Hall.
The Class of 2025 honored at the 21st annual induction banquet included David Cannella '84 (Rifle), Bob Robbins '66 (Wrestling), Kim Seminiano '89 (Women's Track and Field), Ray Thayer '46 (Men's Swimming and Diving), and Michael Mahan '70 (Men's Rugby).
Family, friends, former teammates, and supporters filled the hall as each inductee was recognized for their contributions to Army West Point Athletics and their lasting impact on their respective programs.
David Cannella (Rifle, 1981–84)
One of Army's most decorated marksmen, Cannella earned five first-team NRA All-America honors, set the school air rifle record, and competed twice at the Olympic Trials. A team captain, he helped guide Army to multiple top-six NCAA finishes and later excelled with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, winning national championships and representing the U.S. internationally.
Bob Robbins (Wrestling, 1963–66)
A two-time NCAA All-American, Robbins placed sixth and fifth nationally at 137 and 145 pounds, respectively. He captured the EIWA conference title in 1966 and earned three varsity letters, cementing his place among Army wrestling's all-time greats.
Kim Seminiano (Women's Track and Field, 1986–89)
Seminiano was a two-time Division II Outdoor All-American and Army Athletic Association Award recipient. A dominant high jumper, she set school records indoors and outdoors, won multiple Heptagonal titles, and helped lead Army to three straight victories over Navy while serving as team captain.
Ray Thayer (Men's Swimming and Diving, 1943–46)
A four-time All-American sprinter, Thayer excelled in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and anchored Army relays to national acclaim. He was team captain, set Academy records, and later served 30 years as a distinguished Army field artillery officer.
Head Coach Michael Mahan (Men's Rugby)
Known as the "Godfather of Army Rugby," Mahan transformed Army's rugby programs over 25+ years. He led the men's team to multiple Final Fours, oversaw its transition to varsity status, and coached the women's team as its inaugural head coach. A retired lieutenant colonel, his legacy endures through the cadet-athletes he mentored and the culture of excellence he built.
As the Class of 2025 took its place among West Point's legends, the celebration served as a reminder of the lifelong bonds forged through athletics and the enduring values of duty, honor, and country.
A special plaque unveiling ceremony will take place at halftime of Saturday's football game against North Texas, ensuring the legacies of the new inductees are forever remembered within Army Athletics.
