Army Ties Stony Brook, 0-0
September 16, 2025 | Men's Soccer
STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to six matches after recording a 0-0 road draw against Stony Brook on Tuesday evening at LaValle Stadium.
Army (3-1-3) relied on its strong team defense and impressive goalkeeping as it posted its third shutout in a row and fourth this season. Stony Brook (2-2-3) fired seven shots on goal, but Black Knights' goalkeeper Michael Guiry was once again a wall in front of the net.
The Seawolves outshot the Black Knight's 9-3 in the first half but the best goal scoring opportunity came in the 39th minute as Justin Davidyook fired a left-footed missile into the back of the Stony Brook net. However, after a lengthy review the officials' determined Army was offsides and disallowed the goal.
The two sides went into the halftime break scoreless. Guiry made four first-half saves for the Black Knights.
The second half saw Army spending a lot of time in the defensive zone, even more so than the first 45 minutes. Similar to Army in the first half, Stony Brook scored in the 80th minute but the goal was ruled offside.
Guiry finished the night with seven total saves, while Stony Brook outshot Army 16-7 overall and 7-3 on shots on goal. The Seawolves had three corner kicks to the Black Knights zero.
Coaches Corner – Head coach Brian Plotkin
"I am enjoying these learning moments when they don't result in losses. I think the group is in a pretty good head space where they know tonight wasn't up to the expectation and standard. I think there is a little maturing to be done but we love what we're doing. We found a way to not put out our best but still come away with a road tie and shutout. We'll live with that."
