July 08, 2025 | General
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Director of Athletics Tom Theodorakis announced the hiring of Lieutenant Colonel Kelly Calway as Deputy Athletic Director, Military. A decorated Army officer, elite athlete, and experienced leader, Calway brings a unique blend of military expertise, athletic excellence, and academic achievement to the department's senior leadership team.
"We are thrilled to welcome LTC Kelly Calway back to West Point in this key leadership role," said Theodorakis. "Her proven track record as a leader in uniform, elite competitor, and mentor to cadet-athletes makes her the ideal fit to bridge the gap between our military and athletic missions."
Calway, a 2006 graduate of North Carolina State University, was a D-1 runner and three-time U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier. She most recently served as a National Intelligence Collection Officer in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Her career includes deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, a Bronze Star Medal, and high-profile assignments at the Central Intelligence Agency.
Previously stationed at West Point from 2015–2018, Calway served as a Combatives Instructor in the Department of Physical Education, coached the Army West Point Marathon Team, and was an officer representative for the Cross Country and Track teams. Her return marks a continuation of her passion for developing cadet-athletes and enhancing the academy's athletic and military excellence.
Calway holds advanced degrees in Kinesiology (Sports Psychology) and Strategic Intelligence and has earned national recognition as a coach, including the 2024 Virginia High School League Regional Coach of the Year and the Coach Krzyzewski Award for her leadership of the Army West Point Marathon Team.
She is married to Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Calway, Deputy Director of the Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis and a Professor of Economics at West Point. They have two daughters, Hazel and Harriet.
