Baseball Dispatches LIU in Eight Innings
April 30, 2025 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the fourth time this season, the Army West Point Baseball bats have ended a game ahead of schedule thanks to its offensive output.
The Black Knights scored seven runs in the first two innings and their way to an 11-1 run-rule win in eight innings over the LIU Sharks.
Army's plus-13 hit margin was the best in a game by the team this year. It also brings the team back within one game of .500 overall at 21-22, after dropping a pair of games at Bucknell to conclude Patriot League play April 26-27.
Fans at Doubleday Field Wednesday didn't have to wait long to witness productive offense from Army. Justin Lehman doubled to left field in the first inning to open the scoring, before Ethan Ellis added an RBI and Thomas Schreck also doubled to plate another pair of runs and make it 4-0.
The Sharks scored their only run of the game in the second, but Army answered in the home half with three additional runs. After Chris Barr knocked a solo home run to right field, Lehman and Ellis collected their second RBIs in as many innings.
While Army's bats headlined Wednesday's affair, the arms played an equally vital supporting role.
Starting pitcher Michael Delph struck out two across his 1.1 inning start, leading the parade in a bullpen day. Bryce Brownlee went 1.2 frames after not pitching in the Bucknell series, earning the win.
Kaden Youmans, Walker Calvo, John Calloway and Mark Abell combined for the final five innings pitched, all without a run allowed. Calloway recorded his first career strikeout in the eighth inning.
Addison Ainsworth launched a two-run home to right in the seventh inning to make it 9-1, before William Parker scored on a wild pitch. Parker come around to bat an inning later and took a hit-by-pitch, plating Coleson Titus and giving Army the game-ending 10-run lead.

Kevin Luke entered the game in the eighth at center field and remained in the lineup to bat in the bottom of the inning, collecting a single. As Army's most potent pinch runner and having played in 11 games this year, it was Luke's first at-bat since March 12 vs. UAlbany.
