Baseball Drops Wednesday Contest to Holy Cross
April 16, 2025 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Baseball never led Wednesday after the third inning vs. Holy Cross, dropping its sole Patriot League midweek contest 12-6 at Doubleday Field.
Â
The Black Knights drop to 16-19 overall and 10-9 in conference play.Â
Â
Army scored first, on a second inning wild pitch to score Justin Lehman from third base. However, the Crusaders responded with a three-run top of the third to go ahead and never trailed again.Â
Â
An unusual sequence occurred in the third inning, when Holy Cross' Chris Baillargeon appeared to hit a two-run home run. However, he was called out for passing the runner on first, and only one RBI was credited on the play.Â
Â
After the Crusaders made it 5-1 in the top of the fourth, Army inched closer on a John McKillop sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning, before Chris Barr recorded an RBI groundout an inning later and Thomas Schreck scored two at-bats after that on a throwing error to make it 5-4.Â
Â
However, a pair of Holy Cross homers in the sixth and seventh innings quickly made it 10-4.Â
Â
Addison Ainsworth and Parker each had RBI doubles in the seventh to trim the deficit down to 10-6, but the Crusaders added another homer in the ninth to create additional insurance.
Â
Joe Valchar took the decision, striking out five batters across his 2.1-inning start. Michael Delph, Kaden Youmans, Kevin Reavey and Walker Calvo each pitched in relief.Â
Â
