Baseball Alum Jacob Hurtubise Makes Reds Opening Day Roster
March 27, 2025 | Baseball
CINCINNATI – Army West Point Baseball and United States Military Academy Class of 2020 graduate Jacob Hurtubise has been named to the 2025 Cincinnati Reds opening day roster.Â
Â
Hurtubise is the first ever USMA graduate to make an MLB opening day roster.Â
Â
The outfielder made his MLB debut May 13 a season ago and played in 29 total games with Reds in 2024.
Â
Hurtubise played in 23 spring training games with Cincinnati this year, batting .289. The native of Zionsville, Ind. is the second Black Knight graduate to reach the major leagues, after RHP Chris Rowley spent parts of the 2017 and 2018 seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays.Â
Â
The four-year baseball letterman hit .301 across his Army career. As a junior in 2019—his final full season before COVID cut short the 2020 campaign—Hurtubise hit .375, with 61 starts and 26 RBIs.Â
Â
Hurtubise was part of two Patriot League Tournament championships and NCAA Regional Appearances with Army. He signed with the Reds' organization as a free agent in 2020. Â
Â
Cincinnati opens the season at Great American Ball Park Thursday under first year manager Terry Francona. First pitch vs. the San Fransico Giants is set for 4:10 p.m.
