Hockey Continues Surge with 5-3 Victory Over Sacred Heart

WEST POINT, NY – Army West Point hockey (12-16-1, 12-9-1 Atlantic Hockey America) remained hot with a 5-3 victory over Sacred Heart (17-10-5, 14-7-3 Atlantic Hockey America) on Saturday night.
The win gave Army five points in the series, marking four straight AHA sets with at least five points collected for the Black Knights including eight of nine games seeing at least two points earned.
Joey Baez scored the game-winning goal with 4:20 remaining after the Pioneers had tied the game at three less than two minutes earlier.
Jack Ivey scored a pair of power-play goals in the second period on a five-minute major penalty that the Pioneers took for a direct contact to the head penalty on Ivey himself. His brother Ben had already notched the first of the game for the Black Knights, as the duo combined for three goals and six points on the night.
Mac Gadowsky had a strong night with three assists while JJ Cataldo made 25 saves in net to get the win for the Black Knights.
Sacred Heart got on the board first through Reid Pabich in the fourth minute of the game as as Army wiped out an uneventful first period with a last minute goal from Ben Ivey after a good stick from Nils Forselius poked the puck into his path.
Army jumped ahead 3-1 in the second with the two power play goals from Jack Ivey, as Ben earned the primary assist on each.
This time it was the Pioneers getting the goal in the final minute of the period, making it a 3-2 game heading into the third as Mikey Adamson tabbed his tenth of the season.
Army and Cataldo weathered the storm throughout the third, until John Jaworski slammed in a loose puck out in front to tie the game at three with 5:42 to play.
With another overtime looming, Gadowsky made the play of the game with a move from the neutral zone into the Pioneers defensive end, sliding a perfect pass over to Baez who finished off his sixth of the season for the eventual game-winner.
Brent Keefer ensured the three points with an empty net goal as Gadowsky and Jack Ivey each logged their third point of the night on the goal.
Army will head to Air Force next to battle the Falcons for a pair of games on February 14-15 in Colorado Springs.
