Hear From Coach Smith:
The tune-up is a chance for us to evaluate some final roster spots for the Patriot League Championship meet next weekend. It is also an opportunity for our entire team to get one final indoor competition. Many of our key performers on the track were resting this weekend but in the field events, we had some of the top people in the meet. Our throwers dominated the competition. Jake Nwosu '25 was already penciled in for the conference meet in the weight throw but his winning mark today of 19.27 meters was a significant improvement over his previous personal best and moved him to number two in the conference heading into next weekend. Jake has always had the strength to throw far but has struggled technically…until today. He had the best series of his life today and I'm sure his confidence is soaring as we head into the championship meet. Emily Fink '26 won both the shot and the weight and improved on her season-best mark in the weight throw. Behind Emily in the shot was Jordan Hecht '27 who has been steadily improving throughout the season and tonight had her best mark of the year at 15.19m. We expect to have our best marks of the year in February and March. That is the plan. So it isn't a surprise for me to see the improvements today across several events. I think next weekend, if we perform at our best, we will have a good chance to compete at the top of the conference in a number of events.
