Rifle Opens Season with Strong Weekend Performances

CHARLESTON, S.C. / STATESBORO, Ga. — The Army West Point rifle team opened its 2025–26 campaign with a strong showing over the weekend, highlighted by multiple personal bests and the program's best first-match team score in history.

The Black Knights defeated The Citadel on Saturday by an aggregate score of 4691–3986, marking their highest-ever season-opening total. Senior Chris Jennings led the way with a personal-best aggregate of 1179 on Sunday, while Hannah Dufresne shined in her collegiate debut, firing a 1173 on Saturday.

Sophomore Brenna Green also posted a personal best in air rifle, scoring 595 on Saturday at The Citadel.

Army returned to the range Sunday in Georgia for a four-team match, placing second behind Georgia Southern with a team total of 4670. The final standings were:

Georgia Southern – 4731
Army – 4670
North Georgia – 4618
Schreiner University – 3079

"We learned a lot about how we compete and what we need to focus on in training this weekend," said head coach Leighton Dempster. "There were some great performances throughout the weekend. Chris' experience shined with his consistency and overall score, and Hannah had a great college debut. We're better than we showed this weekend, and I'm excited to get back in the range to prepare for our home opener."
