Army West Point Retains the Cup with Tie to Navy in Star Match

CHESTER, Pa. – Army West Point women's soccer tied to the Navy Midshipmen (8-5-2, 1-2-2) by a score of 2-2 on Friday afternoon. The game was a part of the Star Series presented by USAA. For the Army Black Knights (8-4-2, Patriot League 2-2-1), sophomore Grace Pohlidal scored both goals, earning her first career brace. The game's attendance of 6,037 fans was the second highest in D1 women's soccer so far this season and ranks as the 17th highest all-time in a regular season.

How It Happened

The Midshipmen came out strong pushing hard to open the match. Navy was able to break thru on a breakaway with nine minutes left in the first half
Going into the break the Black Knights were out shooting the Midshipmen nine shots to seven
Coming out of halftime, Navy was able to extend their lead on a penalty kick to make it 2-0
At 54:21, sophomore Grace Pohlidal was able to put the Black Knights on the board to make it 2-1. Sophomore Daisy West kicked in a free kick from just outside the 18. Pohlidal and the Navy goaltender both went up for the ball, but neither was able to come down with it cleanly. As Pohlidal was falling to the ground it hit off her and into the back of the net.
In the closing minutes of the match, the Black Knights found the equalizer off a long-range strike from Pohlidal. Senior Brigid Duffy drove with the ball into the box but was stopped by two Navy defenders. The ball came out to Pohlidal just outside the box, and she took a long-range strike that went in at the top right corner to tie it 2-2.
