Wresting Sends Four More to NCAA Championships

Seven wrestlers place on Day 2 of EIWA Championships, Black Knights finish 3rd in team scoring
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Four Army Wrestlers punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships on Day 2 of the EIWA Championships Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa., bringing the total number of Army wrestlers heading to Kansas City to six.

Additionally, seven Black Knights placed at the EIWA Championships, which concluded at Bucknell Saturday evening.Â

Ben Pasiuk led Army with a second-place finish in the 174lb division. Ethan Berginc went 2-1 Saturday to come in third in the 125lb class, joined by Braden Basile in the 133lb bracket. Matthew Williams (149lb), Nate Lukez (157lb) and Gunner Filipowicz (165lb) each followed in fourth. Lucas Stoddard (285lb) finished the night for Army with a sixth-place finish in the 285lb bracket.Â

On Saturday, Berginc, Basile, Williams and Filipowicz each punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships later this month, joining Pasiuk and Stoddard who clinched Friday night.Â

Wrestlers who did not automatically qualify for the NCAA tournament may still earn an at-large berth, with those qualifiers announced March 12.

The Black Knights finished third among the 17 EIWA programs in team scoring, with 95.5 points. Cornell won the team scoring portion of the event with 164.5 points. Head coach Kevin Ward was named EIWA Coach of the Year Saturday night, leading Army across the weekend and a regular season in which the squad went 7-4 in dual meets and 6-1 in EIWA matches, including a Star Series win at Navy Feb. 16.Â
