March 12, 2024 | Hockey
BOSTON - Army West Point hockey junior forward Joey Baez was named to the All-Atlantic Hockey second team, announced today by the league, while plebe defenseman Mac Gadowsky landed on the conference's all-rookie team.
Joey Baez, a junior out of Tampa, Florida, lands on the All-AHA second team for the second consecutive season. Baez led the Black Knights this season in goals with 15 and points with 31 behind a career-best 16 assists. Despite missing four games due to injury, the forward was one of eight players in the conference to eclipse the 30-point plateau in the regular season. His .97 points per game ranked eighth in the conference as did his five power-play goals. Baez is second in the conference in goals since the beginning of last season with 35, and recorded a team-best four game-winning goals for Army this season.
Mac Gadowsky, a freshman out of State College, Pennsylvania, burst onto the scene for Army after not appearing in the first seven games of the season. Despite the limited action, Gadowksy led all freshman blue liners in the conference in points with 23, 11 more than the next highest total. He recorded 19 assists on the campaign, as his .7 assists per game mark was top-five in Atlantic Hockey. The 19 helpers was also fourth in the country among freshmen defensemen, as Gadowsky was also one of four freshmen in the nation with 20-plus points and 30-plus blocked shots. He was named the conference's Rookie of the Month for December, after recording eight points in three games including a four-point third period to lead a comeback win at Mercyhurst.
