Women’s Basketball's Win Streak Stopped at Five Games with Loss to Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Army West Point women's basketball team (9-11, 6-4 PL) fell to the Lafayette Leopards (8-13, 3-7), 68-54 on Saturday afternoon at the Kirby Sports Center. Freshman Taylor Wilson was spectacular on the road in Pennsylvania again, sinking 5-9 from three-point range, for a team-high 15 points.
How It Happened
Army led 12-8 halfway through the first quarter with all five in the starting lineup scoring within that time. Both teams began hot from the field shooting 5-7 from the field. Freshman Fiona Hastick got in foul trouble early, picking up two quick fouls. Freshman Taylor Wilson picked up where she left off from last Saturday's Road game at Bucknell, sinking a three-pointer to give Army a 17-12 lead. Army led 19-16 after one-quarter of play.
In the second, Wilson was good again from deep, making her second three-pointer to put the Black Knights up six, 22-16 but Lafayette used a 6-0 run to tie things up at 22-22. Wilson made her third three of the half as Army and Lafayette battled back and forth as the Black Knights led, 25-24.
Another 6-0 run for the Leopards pushed them out front, 30-25 by made baskets by Abby Antognoli, Makayla Andrews, and Kay Donahue.
Army's Trinity Hardy was good on three of four free throws in the last two minutes of the half, as Army went into the locker room trailing by two, 30-24.
Trinity Hardy, nine points and Taylor Wilson, nine points combined to make up for 18 of Army's 28 first-half points on 6-14 shooting. Wilson was 3-5 from three-point distance while the rest of the team was 0-7 combined from downtown.
Lafayette's Abby Antognoli scored 10 first-half points on 5-6 shooting. As a team, the Leopards shot 62.5% from the field (15-24) with 22 points in the paint.
Coming out of the break, Wilson nailed her fourth three of the game, bringing Army within one, 32-31. A few minutes later, Freshman Fiona Hastick was good from three-point to tie the game, 34-34 at about the halfway mark of the quarter. Sophomore Reese Ericson joined in on the three-pointers, making her first of the game to give Army a one-point advantage, 38-37. A few possessions later, Ericson was good from deep again with 30 seconds left in the quarter, as the Black Knights hung on to a two-point lead, 41-39. Two free throws by Lafayette's Kay Donahue tied the game at 41 all entering the fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth, Hastick fouled out for Army as Lafayette opened the quarter on a 14-2 run to jump out to its biggest lead of the afternoon, 53-43. With under four minutes to go playing in catch-up mode, Ericson made her third three and fourth threes and Wilson made her fifth three of the afternoon but Army was not able to put a run together to overcome the deficit falling 68-54 to snap its five-game winning streak.
Leopards' Abby Antognoli finished as the game's top scorer with 22 points on 9-11 shooting. Kayla Drummond added a double-double performance with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

- Reese Ericson scored 14 points on 4-12 shooting from behind the arc. It was her third game of the season making four or more three-pointers and her sixth game scoring in double figures.
- Lafayette shot 60.9% from the field (28-46).
- Lafayette scored 42 points in the paint to Army's 14.
