Hockey Drops Contest 4-0 at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT - Army West Point hockey (5-10-0, 5-7-0 Atlantic Hockey America) fell to the Sacred Heart Pioneers (8-7-2, 7-5-1 Atlantic Hockey America) by a score of 4-0 on Tuesday night from the Martire Family Arena.
The contest marked the final conference matchup in 2024 for the Black Knights, who have collected 15 points through 12 league games.
JJ Cataldo made 25 saves in net for the Black Knights as the Army offense was unable to get going with Ajeet Gundarah making 22 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
Sacred Heart's first two goals came in a hurry and just 73 seconds apart as the closed the first period scoring twice in the final 4:15. Mikey Adamson opened the scoring finishing a two-on-one break before Matthew Guerra quickly doubled the lead.
The Pioneers outshot the Black Knights 16-5 in the opening frame and killed off the lone power-play of the period after an early boarding call.
Army found its legs more in the second period, holding the home side to only four shots on goal as the team's eventually scoreless in the middle twenty minutes. Army had another power-play chance midway through the period, but Sacred Heart did not allow a shot on goal with the man-disadvantage and would take the 2-0 lead into the third.
Army had a chance to make it a one-goal game on an early break, but the shot from Nils Forselius stung the post and kept it a 2-0 lead for the Pioneers. Just a minute later, Marcus Joughin beat Cataldo's five-hole to extend the lead to 3-0 with 12:55 remaining.
Army got one more power-play and pulled Cataldo with under five minutes remaining to set up the six-on-four, but after the power-play expired, the Pioneers put home the empty netter to make it a 4-0 final.
The Black Knights will return next Thursday, Dec. 12., for the Capital Hockey Classic against Penn State, with puck drop set for 8:00 p.m. from Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
