WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point rife team ushers in its conference schedule hosting defending GARC (Great America Rifle Conference) champion West Virginia Saturday morning, 8 a.m., at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.
The undefeated Mountaineers (5-0), ranked No. 3 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll, are in the midst of an 18-match regular season win streak. Their 4735 aggregate average and 2352.3 smallbore average are second highest in the nation, and air rifle (2382.7) is third best.
Despite its youth, Army (2-2), ranked No. 16, will be looking to show it is equal to the challenge as the Black Knights have put up impressive numbers in their matches.
Junior Chris Jennings brings a 590.75 air rifle and freshman Brenna Green a 583 smallbore average into the match. Green's top 590 smallbore mark was against Georgia Southern, while Jennings has the highest air rifle score of 594 fired against the Eagles followed by a 593 at the President's Trophy Match last weekend. Senior Briggs Moore, freshman Addison Antwiler, along with Green, have each posted a season high 593 in air rifle as well.
Following Saturday's match, Army closes out its fall slate on the road in Lexington, Ky., where it takes on GARC rivals Kentucky and Memphis Nov. 16 and 17th, respectively.
