November 02, 2024 | Women's Rugby
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Army Women's Rugby made the trip down to Annapolis Saturday morning for a mid-day matchup with familiar foe Navy for the second iteration of the women's rugby Star Game as part of the Star Series, presented by USAA. The Black Knights dominated possession from the opening whistle and racked up a 41-0 final score to claim the Star for the second season in a row.
Stevie-Rae Ricklick completed a full-squad push through Navy's line to break the scoring open for Army just under six minutes into the action. Alissa Eisenhart drove her first conversion of the game through the posts to give the Black Knights a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes of play.
The Black Knights would only pick up speed as Chloe De Leon blew past the Midshipmen defense and notched Army's second try between the posts only two minutes later, setting Eisenhart up for a straight-on conversion attempt that she drove straight home for a 14-0 lead.
Eisenhart opened Army's lead up further in the 21st minute of action as she sent a penalty kick between the posts, extending the gap to 17 points for Army.
The Black Knights' defense put on an incredible showing, rebuffing Navy time and again including a crucial stop just inches from Navy's try line that kept the Midshipmen scoreless and Army up 17 going into the halftime break.
Eisenhart wasted no time taking advantage of a penalty kick opportunity just two minutes back from the break, sending it home and pushing Army across the 20-point mark.
Army's defensive strategy held true as the minutes ticked on in the second half until the Black Knights found a way through Navy's line once more with Yesenia Morales crossing the try line and setting up Eisenhart for her third conversion of the matchup 66 minutes into the contest.
The Black Knights would continue to hold strong through to the final minutes of action where their formidable determination saw them press for a try as Ricklick battled through the Navy line just shy of the 79-minute mark with Eisenhart delivering a fourth completed conversion.
Army put the statement try on the board as the clock ticked into the 82nd minute of play with the Black Knights forcing the Midshipmen on defensive, but Navy could not stop a determined Cecilia Ollis as she powered across the try line to take Army up 39-0 just a few feet outside of the posts.
Eisenhart remained composed and sent the final conversion attempt straight through the uprights to cap off a dominant 41-0 showing for the Black Knights and cement Army's second consecutive Star Game win.
