November 18, 2024 | Hockey
BOSTON - Army West Point hockey sophomore defenseman Mac Gadowsky and freshman goaltender JJ Cataldo each received weekly honors from Atlantic Hockey America, as announced today by the league.
The duo helped Army collect all six points at RIT this past weekend with road victories of 5-1 and 4-2, which marked Army's first road conference sweep since February 2022.
Gadowsky, a Preseason All-Atlantic Hockey selection, earns his first weekly honor of the season after skating to a plus-seven rating across both contests to go along with four points. He logged his first goal of the season on Friday night before exploding for a three-point second period on Saturday which featured two goals and a primary assist. The goals marked the first of the campaign for the sophomore who has recorded seven points on the campaign. Gadowsky is one of three defensemen in the conference to have at least seven points with a plus-minus of five or better this season.
Cataldo continued the dominant start to his career with two more victories in the crease for the Black Knights. The plebe stopped 19 of 20 shots on Friday night to earn the win before making 32 saves on Saturday to complete the sweep. Cataldo has allowed just eight goals through his first six career starts as his .954 save percentage currently leads the country and is the third-highest from any goaltender in their first six career games since 2002. He currently holds a 4-2-0 record with a 1.33 GAA as the rookie of the week honor is his second of the campaign.
