Men’s Rugby Dominates Kutztown to Close Out Fall Campaign

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point Men's Rugby team (8-1) defeated Rugby East rival Kutztown (2-5) 41-17 in their final game of the fall 2024 season.
Benji Kemp led the way for Army, scoring a season-high three tries, while five other Black Knights contributed points on the scoreboard.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Army's strong offense wasted no time, powering through Kutztown's defense. In the third minute, Kemp made a push to the try zone to put the Black Knights on the board. Howie Heller converted, giving Army a 7-0 lead within the first four minutes.
The next 13 minutes saw both defenses battle hard, preventing any advances until the 17th minute, when Army extended their lead to 12-0 after Joey Knight crossed into the try zone.
At the 21st minute, Andrew Bardak added another try for Army, making it 17-0.
For the remainder of the first half, both teams focused on defense, with Kutztown making some gains towards the try zone. However, as the clock reached 40:00, the Golden Bears broke through Army's defense, scoring a try to make it 17-5 at halftime.
Army continued their dominance in the second half. In the 45th minute, Kemp scored his second try, converted by Heller, to extend the lead to 24-7. Just 10 minutes later, Kemp crossed the try line again, pushing the score to 31-7 with another Heller conversion.
Four minutes later, Army's offense remained sharp as Engels powered over the line, furthering their lead to 36-7.
After 14 minutes of defensive play, Army extended their lead once more when Liskey crossed the try line in the 74th minute, making it 41-7.
Kutztown managed to score a try and conversion in the 78th minute, but it wasn't enough as the Black Knights secured the 41-17 victory.
