January 03, 2024 | Hockey
BOSTON, MA - Army West Point plebe defenseman Mac Gadowsky has been named Altantic Hockey defensive player of the month for December, announced today by the league.
Gadowsky logged a stellar mark of eight points in three games in the month while blocking four shots to help Army pick up a league win at Mercyhurst before recording the program's first victory over a ranked opponent since 2017 with its win over New Hampshire to close the month. The State College, Pa. native registered multiple points in each game throughout the month.
Gadowsky helped Army to a pivotal comeback at Mercyhurst to begin the month, logging a conference-high four points in a single period as Army scored all four of its goals in the final frame to secure a 4-3 regulation victory. Gadowsky picked up three primary assists on two goals from Michael Sacco and a third from Max Itagaki, before scoring the game-winner with 1:37 remaining which also marked his first career score. He went on to log a pair of assists in game two against the Lakers before repeating the two-helper effort in the win over 16th-ranked New Hampshire.
Gadowsky has posted 12 points in 11 games this season while skating to a +2 rating. He is also one of three players in Atlantic Hockey averaging over a point per game this season. This marks the first career monthly honor from Atlantic Hockey for Gadowsky and second overall award after winning Rookie of the Week on December 11.
Gadowsky will return to the ice next in a true homecoming, as Army takes on Penn State this Saturday with puck drop set for 6:00 p.m. from Pegula Ice Arena.
