Seven Named to First Wrestling Coaches Poll
January 23, 2024 | Wrestling
INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has announced the first coaches' ranking for the 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The Black Knights had seven guys ranked
Ben Pasiuk is the highest ranked individual at No. 11 in the 174 weight class. Next up are freshmen Lucas Stoddard at No. 22 in the heavyweight, Gunner Filipowicz at No. 26 in the 165 division, and Braden Basile at No. 27 for the 133 weight class. Ethan Berginc comes in at No. 28 in the 125 division. Matthew Williams in No. 29 in the 149 class and Nate Lukez comes in at No. 31 in the 157 division.
The coaches' rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the seven conferences. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class to be considered. The coaches' ranking is one of several criteria that will be evaluated by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large selection and seeding process along with head-to-head competition, quality wins, Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage.
The Black Knights are currently undefeated against EIWA competition and on a three match win streak and will look to make it four against Bucknell this weekend when they travel to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on the Bison at 6 PM.
