January 02, 2024 | Hockey
BOSTON, MA - Army West Point hockey plebe forward Barron Woodring has been named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week, announced today by the league.Â
The Downers Grove, Illinois native played a key role in helping Army collect its first victory over a ranked opponent since 2017 in a 6-3 triumph over the 16th-ranked New Hampshire Wildcats. Woodring deposited two goals in the game, marking the first two goals of his career.Â
Woodring opened the scoring in front of a sold out Tate Rink on a break six minutes into the game, before scoring the eventual game-winner in the second period taking a pass on a break from Lucas Kanta and firing into the top right corner. He became the first plebe to score two goals in a game for the Black Knights since Mitch Machlitt (2-26-21 vs. LIU) while joining Joey Baez and Michael Sacco as the lone Black Knights to record a multi-goal game this season.
Woodring is now the third Black Knight to earn the award this season, joining classmates Jake Hewitt and Mac Gadowsky.Â
Army returns to conference play tonight, hosting Bentley at 7:00 p.m. at Tate Rink.
