Baez, Szary and Keefer Earn Atlantic Hockey Weekly Honors

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point hockey claimed three of the four weekly awards this from Atlantic Hockey, announced today by the league.
Joey Baez earned AHA Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Evan Szary was named Goaltender of the Week and Brent Keefer tabbed Rookie of the Week honors. This marks the first time this season that Army collected multiple weekly honors.
Baez registered five points in two games this past week before missing Army's final game due to injury. Against Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Baez provided the primary assist on Keefer's goal, before scoring his tenth of the season in the third period to help Army come-from-behind. Baez logged another assist on Ricky Lyle's last-minute goal which forced overtime and gave Baez a three-point night. Returning on Friday, Baez scored his AHA-leading 18th career power-play goal which ended up being the game-winner before logging another primary assist on a goal from Barron Woodring. Baez leads Army with 21 points this season as his 1.0 points per game ranks third in the conference.
Szary had a strong week while making starts in all three games for Army, registering a 1.88 GAA and .937 save-percentage across the week. Szary left the opener against Sacred Heart due to injury after making 25 saves on 27 shots faced. Returning on Friday, Szary made 24 saves on his way to his first career shutout as Army collected all three points in a 3-0 win over Holy Cross. Szary returned for another 25-save effort on Saturday, keeping Army in the game and holding the Crusaders scoreless through the final 30 minutes. In Atlantic Hockey games this season, Szary ranks fourth in the league with 27.42 saves per game.
Keefer continued to impress in his plebe campaign, registering three more points this week through a goal and two assists. He became the first Army freshman since 2016-17 to reach the ten-goal plateau with his even strength goal to tie the game in the second period against Sacred Heart. He went on to provide the primary assist on Lyle's last-minute goal to extend the game. Keefer added his third point of the weekend on Woodring's goal in game one against the Crusaders. Keefer currently ranks second among freshmen in Atlantic Hockey with ten goals, while him and Baez are the only pair of teammates with 10+ tallies this season.
Army will have another three-game week, hosting Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. before a weekend set against rival Air Force.
