Women's Rugby Tops Mount St. Mary's, 39-10

EMMITSBURG, MD - Army West Point women's rugby (2-3, 2-3 NIRA) took down Mount St. Mary's (1-3, 1-3 NIRA) by a score of 39-10 on the road on Saturday morning.
The Mountaineers got out on the front foot early, moving the ball forward in the opening stages before touching down the first try of the contest less than five minutes in. However, Army took control of the game soon after, as the Mount St. Mary's was held scoreless for the final 75 minutes.
Yesenia Morales got the scoring started for Army just minutes later, touching down her second try of the campaign. After 15 minutes of scoreless rugby, Army got out to its first lead of the game with Kahala Bandmann finding space down the left wing before offloading to Asha Jarusinski for the try in the 22nd minute.
Morales got on the scoresheet once again minutes later, finding a seam to score an easy try in which she was able to center up for the conversion attempt. Alissa Eisenhart made good on the conversion, before knocking in her fourth penalty kick of the season just before the half, as the Black Knights led 20-5 at the break.
Army took its momentum into the second half, with Eisenhart notching her first try of the season followed by another conversion which put Army ahead 27-5. In the 53rd minute, Grace Macune broke free through the middle of the pitch, logging her first try of the season. Eisenhart knocked in another conversion, bringing her team-high total to 14 points for the contest.
Army was able to match its season-high in points, with Stevie-Rae Ricklick scoring a try in the closing minutes, with the final score moving to 39-10 after a late Mountaineers try. The Black Knights will head into a bye week before hosting Quinnipiac University on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. from Anderson Rugby Complex.
